We can classify vertebrates into five groups:

 Mammals

For example: a cat is a vertebrate.

 Birds

For example: a rooster is a vertebrate.

5.png

 Reptiles

For example: a snake is a vertebrate.

 Fish

For example: a shark is a vertebrate.

 Amphibians

For example: a frog is a vertebrate.

 What is a mammal?

3.png
  • All mammals are vertebrates because they have a backbone.

  • They are viviparous because they born from their mother’s womb, and they feed their babies with milk.

  • All mammals breathe with their lungs.

  • Mammals can be carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. Their teeth depend on that.

  • Most of them have fur or hair, and four legs.

  • Some reptiles have four legs and crawl (lizards) , others have no legs and slither (snakes) , and finally others have flippers and swim (turtle).

  • Fish are vertebrates because they have a backbone.

  • They are oviparous because they are born from eggs.

  • They live in water.               They swim using their fins and tail.
    They breathe with gills.

4.png
  • Amphibians are vertebrates because they have a backbone.

  • They are oviparous because they are born from eggs.

  • Baby amphibians are called tadpoles              Tadpoles live in water. They don't have legs, but they have a tail to swim.
