Why are plants living things?
Plants are living things because...
-
They are born from seeds.
-
Their roots, stem and leaves grow.
-
Then the plant reproduces.
-
Finally, the plant dies.

What do plants need?
Plants need water, air, sunlight, and nutrients from the soil to make their own food.

How do plants move?
They can't move around, BUT they can move some of their parts.

What are the parts of a plant?
-
ROOTS are hidden. They fix the plant in the ground. They absorb the water and nutrients from the soil.
-
The STEM supports the plant. It carries water, minerals and food to other parts of the plant.
-
LEAVES make the food for the plant.
-
FLOWERS make seeds to continue the life-cycle.
-
The FRUIT protects the seeds.

What are the parts of a flower?

-
PETALS attract insects. The
COROLLA is the group of petals. -
The group of SEPALS is the CALYX.
They protect the flower. -
The STAMENS are the male
reproductive organs. They have
the pollen. -
The PISTIL is the female
reproductive organ. It has the
OVULES.

How do plants with flowers reproduce?
-
First, an insect (for example a bee) flies towards a flower, to drink nectar.
-
When the bee is drinking nectar, the pollen (from the stamen) gets stuck in its wings.
-
After that, when the bee flies home, some of the pollen falls into the pistil.
-
Inside the pistil, the pollen joins an ovule, and they form a seed.
-
Next, the petals fall off the flower and the pistil grows around the seed to make a fruit.
-
Finally, the fruit falls to the ground and the seed make a new plant.

How is the nutrition of plants? (Photosynthesis)

-
1st. The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil.
-
2nd. Water and minerals pass through the stem to the leaves.
-
3rd. Leaves absorb Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
-
4th. Leaves use the sunlight as energy to make their own food. During this process, Plants also produce Oxygen!!
